US Senate passes bipartisan resolution reaffirming
The resolution also condemns China for the “ use of military
force ” to change the status quo at the Line of factual Control( LAC) and its
other provocations, and lauds the government of India for the way it has taken
to “ defend itself ” against the “ aggression and security pitfalls ” from
China.
On Thursday, the US Senate introduced a bipartisan
resolution reaffirming that the state of Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part
of India and condemning China for its use of military force to change the
status quo at the Line of factual Control( LAC) and other provocations. The
resolution also lauds India for taking a way to defend itself against aggression
and security pitfalls from China.
The resolution was introduced by Legislators Jeff Markley
and Bill Haggerty and sponsored by John Cornyn. It supports India's
sovereignty and territorial integrity, commends India's development sweats in
Arunachal Pradesh, and commits to heightening US backing in the region.
The resolution also expresses support for the US- India
bilateral cooperation and commends India's defense modernization and
diversification sweats. It further strengthens the US- India cooperation
regarding defense, technology, economics, and people-to-people ties, and
promotes enhancing America's multinational cooperation with India through the
Quad, the East Asia Summit, and other transnational fora.
The resolution comes after Indian and Chinese colors engaged
in a skirmish in Arunachal Pradesh along the LAC in December last time. The
statement by Senator Merkley said the resolution reaffirmed that the US
recognized the McMahon Line as the transnational boundary between China and
Arunachal Pradesh and pushed back against Beijing's claims that Arunachal is
PRC home.
Overall, this resolution demonstrates rare bipartisan
support for India and its territorial integrity and marks a significant
development in US- India relations.
