The presidents talked about regional problems,
particularly their collaboration with Jordan, as well as economic and security
relations between the two nations. The discussions were also attended by the
two nations' foreign and trade ministries. According to Egypt's state-run Al-Ahram
daily, the discussions centered on carrying out important projects, such as
constructing gas pipelines between Iraq and Egypt through Jordan and a
commercial metropolis on the Jordanian border with Iraq.
With five summits between their leaders since 2019, the
most recent taking place in December near the Dead Sea in Jordan, relations
between Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan have gotten closer. The tight ties that the
late Mustafa al-Kadhimi, the prime minister of Iraq, established with el-Sissi
and King Abdullah II of Jordan have been maintained with al-visit. Sudan's
As Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in the 1990s, ties
between Egypt and Iraq were difficult for many years. El-Sissi, the first
Egyptian head of state to visit Iraq in decades, went to Baghdad in June 2021.
The relationship between the two countries underwent a critical turning point
as a result of this visit.
El-Kadhimi has also worked to improve Iraq's reputation in
the region as a skilled negotiator who can persuade even the most adamant
adversaries to sit down and talk. Iran and Saudi Arabia recently had
discussions in Baghdad that were centered on healing relations between the two
regional rivals as well as the conflict in Yemen.
El-Sissi and the Sudanese negotiations show the deepening
of the regional alliance between Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan as well as the growing
cooperation between Egypt and Iraq. This alliance might be extremely important
in supporting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Middle East given the
region's many obstacles, including political instability and economic
difficulties.
