Jack Ma's Trip to Australia Fuels Speculation Amidst Beijing's Fintech Crackdown
Jack Ma's Trip to Australia Fuels Speculation
Recently, Jack Ma was sighted visiting a hotel in Melbourne.
It was later verified that he was there.
Ma's pictures have appeared on Twitter, but Bloomberg News
has not confirmed their validity. Ma has already been seen traveling; he
recently stopped in Tokyo and the countryside of Japan before traveling to
Thailand, where he visited gastronomic hotspots and apparently saw a Muay Thai
boxing bout. According to local media accounts, he then appeared in Hong Kong
last month to meet with financial and technological professionals.
The millionaire businessman is particularly affected by Ma's
journey to Australia. The Morley family gave the adolescent a trip to
Newcastle, New South Wales, in the 1980s, which had a significant impact on his
destiny. In 2017, Ma established a $20 million university scholarship
foundation in honor of his late mentor Ken Morley after maintaining contact
with the Morleys.
Ma's visits take place as indications grow that Beijing is
backing down from its drive to limit the influence and power of internet
colossi. Many observers saw Ma's cession of control of his Ant Group Co.
fintech empire in January as a hint that the harsh crackdown was about to come
to an end.
Ma, one of China's most renowned figures, has been active as
the country's most well-known businessman and has gradually started traveling
again. The motivation for his journeys is still unknown, and his most recent
trip to Australia has left many wondering where he'll go next.
