Self-help author Marianne Williamson challenges Joe Biden's nomination for president in her longshot 2024 bid
Marianne Williamson is running against Biden in a long-shot election in 2024.
Marianne Williamson, a self-help author, and spiritual guide have officially declared her candidature for the 2024 US presidential election, making her the first Democrat to do so. Williamson previously campaigned for office as a Democrat in 2020, but her campaign was unsuccessful in attracting a sizable number of voters.
Williamson declared her candidature and vowed to
"help bring this aberrational chapter of our history to an end, and to
assist bring forth a fresh beginning" at her campaign launch in Washington,
DC. On the 2024 election schedule, she hopes to run for office in early-voting
states like New Hampshire, which has vowed to disobey a Biden-backed DNC plan
to have South Carolina kick off the nomination contests.
Williamson's campaign announcement demonstrates how
solidly national Democrats are unified behind Biden, despite the fact that she
is anticipated to simply offer feigned primary opposition. The party does not
intend to host primary debates, even if more Democrats join Williamson in the
campaign.
The oldest president in American history, Joe Biden is 80
years old and would turn 86 at the end of a second term. According to an
AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research study, the majority of Americans,
including most Democrats, do not want him to run for office again. In the
upcoming weeks, the president is anticipated to declare that he would seek office once more.
Williamson, a Texas native who currently resides in
Beverly Hills, California, has campaign signs with the colors red, blue, and
black and the words "A New Beginning" and "Disrupt the
System" on them. She founded the Center for Living in Los Angeles in the
1980s, which supported those with HIV and AIDS, and is the author of more than
a dozen books. Williamson endorsed Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders' 2016
progressive challenge to eventual Democratic presidential nominee Hillary
Clinton while running an unsuccessful independent congressional campaign in
California in 2014.
In 2020, Williamson was most known for advocating for the
establishment of a Department of Peace and stating that Black People should
receive significant monetary reparations from the federal government as
restitution for years of enslavement and injustice. She referred to racism as
"part of the dark underbelly of American civilization" on the debate
stage. She criticized her fellow Democratic contenders for getting caught up in
the "wonkiness" of policy specifics rather than attempting to halt
the then-"black president's psychic energy of the collectivized
hatred" while claiming that Trump had used fear for political benefit.
Despite financial troubles, Williamson lay off her staff
countrywide and halted her campaign in the weeks before 2020's leadoff Iowa
caucus, claiming she didn't want to "stand in the way of a progressive
candidate winning". Afterward, she supported Sanders for president in the
2020 election. He came in behind Biden.
Political advisors to Biden claim that he is not concerned
about the Democratic primary and is eager to fight Donald Trump once more in
the general election. According to them, a campaign in 2024 against another GOP
contender, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, would resemble the current one
in large part because leading Republicans continue to support Trump's
"Make America Great Again" program.
The Democratic establishment is behind Biden,
demonstrating how easy his route to the candidature will likely be. This
includes possible presidential contenders who may have challenged Biden from
the left or center.
