Ronaldo Supporters Charge FIFA Of Disrespecting Icon at The Greatest Ceremony
Following an awkward incident at FIFA's The Best award, Ronaldo's ardent supporters are furious.
Fans of Cristiano Ronaldo claim that FIFA made fun of the great footballer during The Best presentation on Monday. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner from Portugal, who won the prize in 2016 and 2017, did not attend the event but his image was displayed on the big screen, leading some supporters to claim FIFA purposefully chose a dejected image of the striker.
When a photo of Ronaldo in his underpants was displayed
during a Ballon d'Or ceremony in November 2021, Ronaldo's supporters previously
blasted the people in charge of organizing similar events. It was asserted,
though, that this was more of a playful jab at event co-host Didier Drogba than
a calculated attempt to make fun of Ronaldo.
Pepe, a teammate of Ronaldo's, cast Portugal's ballot for
the Best FIFA Men's Player award in his place. Spanish news agency AS made note
of Ronaldo's absence from the starting lineup during the World Cup in Qatar and
speculated that it could have prevented him from casting a ballot.
While he was absent from the event, Lionel Messi defeated
Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema to claim the title of Best FIFA Men's Player.
With Argentina's World Cup victory in December, the Argentine is also
anticipated to earn a record-breaking ninth Ballon d'Or trophy later this year.
