Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda's Honest Discussion about Hallucinogens
Jane Fonda loves Lily Tomlin for a variety of reasons. A peyote shaman isn't one of them.
The Netflix hit "Grace and Frankie" stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are celebrated for their enduring friendship and on-screen chemistry.
The two actresses recently appeared on "The Late
Show" with Stephen Colbert to discuss their upcoming movie, "Moving
On," but ended up opening up about their experiences with peyote.
When Fonda and Tomlin used peyote together, she admitted
that it was a horrific experience. Fonda has been open about her drug use
throughout the years. She remarked, "I was very worried... it was the
worst. "I adore it, but unless you were with a guide, I wouldn't try
peyote."
The self-described "microdose" Tomlin, on the
other hand, even referred to herself as a "shaman" throughout the
interview. Fonda playfully said that Colbert should take peyote, but she then
changed her mind, stating that she wouldn't advise it unless he had a guide.
Peyote is a plant that has long been employed in Native
American spiritual ceremonies and is well-known for its hallucinogenic effects.
Microdosing, or taking psychedelic drugs in extremely small quantities, has
become more common in recent years as a means to improve creativity, attention,
and well-being without succumbing to the full effects of the drug.
The value of using psychedelics with a shaman or guide is
brought home by Fonda's peyote experience. While some people could have
pleasant experiences, others might have negative emotions or even risky
journeys if they don't have the right direction.
It's not the first time Fonda has spoken up about her drug
use. She talked about trying drugs including ayahuasca and molly on "Watch
What Happens Live With Andy Cohen" in 2018, adding that she didn't enjoy
any of them except for cannabis to help her sleep.
While Fonda acknowledges that there have been some
pharmacological advances, she wouldn't classify them as "cosmic." Her
story serves as a reminder that using drugs should be done so responsibly and
that having a guide or shaman at your side may make all the difference.
