During his Sunday visit to Hubballi-Dharwad in Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a subtle jab at Congressman Rahul Gandhi.

Without mentioning Rahul Gandhi or the Congress, PM Modi remarked that it is regrettable that certain people in Britain have expressed doubts about India's democracy. He asked Karnataka to avoid individuals who threaten Bhagwan Basaveshwara by criticizing Indian democracy abroad.

PM Modi visited Hubballi-Dharwad to dedicate a number of local development projects and lay foundation stones. He referred to Bhagwan Basaveshwara as follows: "The Anubhava Mantapa's construction was one of his outstanding efforts. This democratic system is studied everywhere in the world. And there are several other reasons why India is not just the world's greatest democracy, but also the origin of democracy."

He went on to say, "I had the good fortune to receive an invitation to London for the unveiling of the Bhagwan Basaveshwara monument. Yet, it is regrettable that concerns about Indian democracy are being voiced from London-based soil. No force has the power to undermine Indian democracy. Yet, certain people continue to make measures to undermine Indian democracy. Bhagwan Basaveshwara, the people of Karnataka, and the people of India are all being derided by these individuals. Karnataka must be clear of such individuals."

Rahul Gandhi, who recently traveled to the UK and spoke at a number of events there, is thought to have taken offense at the mention of London and the criticism of India's democratic process. Rahul Gandhi said that India's democracy is under threat and that opposition politicians aren't permitted to speak in Parliament during a speech in Cambridge. Moreover, he said that PM Modi was imposing something that India couldn't handle and ruining India's architectural heritage.

The BJP has criticized these remarks by Rahul Gandhi, and Prime Minister Modi's remarks at Hubballi-Dharwad are perceived as a reaction. But, Rahul Gandhi has said that he never disparaged India on foreign land, and it is the prime minister who says there hasn't been any advancement during the Congress administration when traveling abroad.

Due to upcoming assembly elections in the state of Karnataka, the BJP and Congress have been at odds there. The Congress wants to make a return, while the BJP wants to keep control of the state.

One interpretation of PM Modi's remarks at Hubballi-Dharwad is that the BJP is blowing the electoral horn for the Karnataka elections. The BJP is anticipated to emphasize topics like development, while the Congress is anticipated to emphasize topics like democracy and the function of the opposition.

In advance of the Karnataka assembly elections, PM Modi's subtle jab at Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Hubballi-Dharwad has stirred a political discussion. Rahul Gandhi has defended his comments and accused PM Modi of making misleading claims while traveling abroad, while the prime minister asked Karnataka to avoid individuals who challenge India's democracy abroad. It is still unclear whether the party will win the state given how heated the election campaign is.
